薬学は,生命と健康を守るために大切な学問であ る 1) 。このような薬学を学んだ上で活躍する薬剤師 は,医療の現場での責務を担うだけでなく, 「くすり」 の開発から生命の本質を探る基礎研究まで関わり, 化学,生物学,物理学など,自然科学における多分 野で研究をしている。さらに,薬剤師が持つ幅広い 科学的知識を背景に,健康食品や化粧品の開発及 びその安全性管理,さらには環境衛生分野,医療行 政にも広くかかわっている。すなわち,薬学を学ぶ 上で自然科学の知識は必須であり,高校で物理・化 学・生物・地学など幅広く学んでくることが望まし い。しかし,すべての科目を高校で履修することは 現在のカリキュラムでは現実的ではないだろう。ま た,高等教育のユニバーサル化や多岐にわたる大学 受験形式,さらには薬科大学・学部の新設ラッシュ によって定員が増え,入学のハードルが下がったこ とも,自然科学の知識を十分に身につけて大学に入 学してこなくなった理由に挙げられるであろう 2) 。 北海道薬科大学(以下,本学)では学生募集形式 は大きく,推薦,社会人,一般および大学入試セン

... れており,受験科目 は基本的に数学,外国語および理科である。また, 理科は物理,化学および生物のうちから1科目を選 択するので,生徒は必然的に得意とする科目を中心 に勉強することになる。入試時に,このような学習 をして入学した学生にとって,スタート地点ですで に,薬学で必要となる自然科学系科目の学力差があ ることになる。 本学は「ファーマシューティカル・ケアの実践を 通じて地域社会ならびに国民の健康と福祉の向上に 寄与する薬剤師の養成を図る」ことを教育理念とし ているので,本学に入学してくる学生のほぼ100% が薬剤師を志す。 それゆえ, 学習意欲は高い。 しかし, 前述のように薬学に必要な化学,物理,生物などの 自然科学系科目を十分に学ばない状態で入学してく る学生にとって,大学の授業についていくことはか なり厳しくなる。すなわちこのような学生は,学習 意欲はあるものの授業内容を理解できないので,進 自由セミナー「もやもや化学を晴れ晴れ化学にしよう」による 1 年生の学習支援の試み 高梨 香織 A Abstract: Chemistry is the fundamental subject for studying pharmacy. However, some students had not attained a reasonable level of proficiency in this subject in their high school days, even though they had a strong desire to be a pharmacist. In order to support these students, we provided a 'learning activity class' , in which students participated voluntarily, with no credit requirement. Students were given the same chemistry problems and were required to solve them at their own pace. Teachers were ready to support them individually when they had difficulties. After the last class, we compared the students' chemistry grades in the final term test with their class attendance. There was no clearly significant effect of attendance. However, there was a slight tendency for frequent attendees to get higher grades. Furthermore, through a questionnaire, the importance of individual support from teachers was revealed to be very helpful in motivating the students.
