<特集論文>Inclusive Growth と学校教育--ウッタル・プラデーシュ州A市の「中途半端な高学歴者」が示唆すること

In present-day India economic growth has made great progress in enabling the children of lowincome/poor families to access formal education and ensuring that they take part in a school education. The "Cult of Success" achieved by school education is spreading throughout the people as actual ideology. However, the statistical truth is that there are still very few people who have risen from poverty through obtaining a higher academic background. What sort of obstacles do young people in India
more » ... ually encounter in obtaining good academic backgrounds/making occupational choices? In this paper I address the above question by focusing on the life histories of some young people born and raised in poor families in a certain local city of Uttar Pradesh. The outcome of research clarified the fact that such young people have the disadvantage of very scanty family resources combined with economic constraints and that they face another disadvantage that may be contributed to "systems", for example the public education system or labour market.
