The article proposes a hypothesis concerning a previously unidentifi ed source for Boris Pasternak's 1953 poem Belaia Noch' (White Night), the fourth poem in the fi nal, poetic Part 17 of the novel Doctor Zhivago. The source in question, which likely served as the basis for the elements of the poem related to Alexander Blok, is an account of Blok's reading of his poem Neznakomka (The Stranger) on the roof of Viacheslav Ivanov's famous «Tower», an episode recorded in Korney Chuko-vsky's memoirs,
