The TOR (target of rapamycin) pathway controls cell growth in response to nutrient availability in eukaryotic cells. Inactivation of TOR function by rapamycin or nutrient exhaustion is accompanied by triggering various cellular mechanisms aimed at overcoming the nutrient stress.
