1971 Journal of the SMPTE  
announced the donation by United Artists Corp. of the original mastcr negatives of the entire pre-1949 Warner Bros. library of films for inclusion in the collections of the Library of Congress. The films, representing two decades of production following the coming of sound, as well as a large selection of silent features, have been added to the American Film Institute Collection at the Library of Congress for presrrvation in the public interest. In addition United Artists has donated the original master negatives of the entire pre-1949 Warner Bros. library of sound short subjects and animated cartoons, Including Looney Tunes and Merry Melodirs, a large selection of sound features produced by Monogram in the 30s and 40s and the entire library of Poptye cartoons released by Paramount during that time. United Artists also donated a collection to the University of Wisconsin including 16mm reference prints, manuscripts, film scripts and still photographs.
