The purpose of this study is to explore methods to suppress hydrogen chloride gas generation during the recycle injection molding process of glass cloth coated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. The zinc stearate (ZS) of metallic soap and a halogen scavenging hydrotalcite compound (HT) was added to recycled glass cloth coated with PVC before injection molding. The suppression effects of the combined mixing of ZS with HT on hydrogen chloride gas generation were examined by using ground

The time elapsed before gas generation was measured by using Congo-red test paper in a high temperature chamber to simulate the temperature conditions during the molding process. Some of the molded specimens were exposed to ultraviolet radiation before testing in order to simulate outdoor use. In addition, tensile tests were carried out on molded specimens to investigate the effects of adding ZS and HT on the mechanical properties. It is concluded here that the combined mixing of a metallic soap such as ZS with a halogen scavenger such as HT is effective for suppressing hydrogen chloride gas generation during the recycle injection molding process of glass cloth coated with PVC.
