The objective of this study is to minimize thc machining crror by se]ecting the approprialc tool erientation at each cutter ]ocation of balt-nosed end rnill for 5-axis machining. By the proposed mcthod, the machining crror can be estimatcd with use of a fcw kinds of gcomctric propertics without any uonsicleratien of dynamics ot' cutting precess, hence the estimation a]gorithm becomes simple. This is signitlcant merit of this tnethod, The equation to estimate the rnachining error includcs

The prototypc of estimation systcm has been dcveteped based on the equation, and thc cstimation results can be obtained for various tool oricntations. Thc rcsults represcnt thc tendency ot' the minimum machining error, but the estimation accuracy should be improved in the I'uturc work, Keywords: Bal] end mMing, Machinin crror, 5-axis mach]ning, Geemetric rule.
