The Bărăgan plain, situated in the E part of the Romanian Plain, is characterized by a temperate lowland climate, with an accentuated degree of continentality. Advection of air masses from all directions generates high intensity of weather phenomena specific to the two extreme seasons. Studying the blizzard phenomenon is particularly important, especially due to the impact that it produces over the environment and the socio-economical activities in a well populated area such as the Bărăgan Plain.
