Brachypodium sylvaticum (Huds.) P. Beauv. (slender falsebrome; Poaceae), with an estimated genome size of 470 Mb and 17 chromosomes ( Foote et al., 2004 ) , is a perennial bunchgrass native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa and is closely related to the bioenergy feedstock model grass B. distachyon (L.)
