In this paper I show that the Belgrade and Valjevo dialects of Serbian share a common phonological pitch accent system despite the phonetic retraction of Valjevo pitch accents. I argue that an Articulatory Phonology approach is best to model the relationship between the retracted pitch accents in Valjevo Serbian and the TBU.
