N(CH3)4[BCl3N3], N(CH3)4[AlCl3N3], K[BCl3NCO] and K[AlCl3NCO] were prepared from N(CH3)4N3 and KNCO with BCl3 and AlCl3 using liquid SO2 as solvent. It is essential to avoid any excess of the halide in order to supress secondary reactions. The IR spectra show the NCO group to be bonded via its nitrogen atom.
