The worldwide diffusion of English is described by Phillipson as a threat to the interests of non-native English speaking countries. This study explores the students" views of whether they think English skills would affect the national power balance or not by semi-structured interviews. The data shows that eight students agreed with the view that English has an effect on the balance of power, while four students disagreed and one other student was neutral.
