In recent years Italian Public History has gone through a process that has transformed it from a series of practices to a more institutionalised discipline. The university teaching and research activities in Public History have to deal with the problem of the discipline's recognition in a rigid academic system that is based on pre-determined disciplinary areas and in which unconventional research outcomes are discouraged.
