The article is devoted to the issues of foreign language teaching renovation in non-linguistic universities using new pedagogical technologies. The formation of cross-cultural linguistic competence of the future engineers is a complicated process wherein the cognitive function of the personality can be effectively developed as well as the social demand of the literate engineers-to-be can be executed. more » ... act as an English communicator but to use English as a language-mediator when in contact with the representatives of other civilizations especially in the sphere of international business and cooperation. In order to accomplish the mediative function of the English language and develop cross-cultural linguistic competence, a special attempt of designing new experimental workbooks was made. "Learn More About the English-Speaking World" and "Multilingual Guide to the English-Speaking World" are the innovative books aimed at the perfection of Russian and foreign technical students' multilingual skills in the situation of the artificial multilingualism. The results of the new method of teaching implementation show that there is an urgent need for foreign language teaching modernization based on globalization, integration and intercultural communication as the main constituents of the global society.
