Trophoblast cells are the first differentiated cells formed from a fertilized egg during mammalian development, and they secrete several autocrine and paracrine factors essential for sustaining pregnancy. In pathological conditions, these cells secrete various proinflammatory cytokines affecting both maternal and fetal health.
