This paper presents the project and implementation of a software defined radio (SDR) to be used primarily as part of a ground station transceiver for the geostationary Es'hail 2 satellite. The SDR contains an intermediate frequency frontend, a signal domain conversion block, and a digital signal processing stage, comprising highly reconfigurable devices: a field programmed gate array, a microcontroller unit with dedicated digital signal processing instructions, and an audio code/decode block.

Due to the digital signal processing stage, the SDR can deal with several different types of modulations. Besides that, the SDR can be operated by a personal computer (via universal serial bus), or work standalone.
