When prejudice becomes silence: race relations in contemporary Brazilian literature

Black characters are a frank minority in Brazilian contemporary narrative, as extensive research has demonstrated. This article analyses some exceptions to this rule, identifying different ways that literature represents racial relations in a society marked by discrimination.
