Syizopsk-This paper gives an account of some attempts, not altogether successful, to prepare lanthan-alums. The characteristic properties of lanthanum sulphate, namely, ready formation of a comparatively insoluble hydrate and double salts, appear to interfere. The following new salts, belonging to known types, were prepared : La, (SO,) ,.Rb2S0,.2H,0 and La, (SO,),.Cs,SO,. 2H,O, and La,( SO,),.Rb,SO" as well as another model, viz., and the suggestion made that lanthanum, which readiiv gives La, ( S0,),.3K2SO" forms the model 1
