Clamond, had raised large expectations because the corrosion of the solderings was attributed to heat alone, and it was hoped that it might be remedied. Exner has just shown that it is due to oxidation by the air, aided by the heat; and that if this action was prevented, by the use of nitrogen~ for example, the electric current would not be formed.
