Benign Prostatica Hyperplasia (BPH) is a progressive enlargement of prostate gland that leads to obstruction of urinary tract and limitation of urine flow. Objective: This research was conducted to know the description of characteristic and obstruction severity level of benign prostatic hyperplasia patients at general hospital of dr. more » ... . Soedarso Pontianak, from January-February 2013. With consecutive sampling technique there are 44 samples which were chosen based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data obtained by questioner using International Prostatic System Score (IPSS) and medical record. The data was analyzed with using Microsoft Excel 2007. Result: Most frequent age occurred at range of 70-73 years old that had 10 patients (22,72%), there were 40 patients (90,90%) that had no family history of BPH, in respect of BMI, there were 27 patients (61,36%) at normal category, there were 25 patients (56,81%) that have done physical exercise <3x/week , 27 patients (61,36%) that had smoking history, mild smokers were 14 patients (51,85%) , most frequent sexual was never had done it that comprised of 16 patients (36,36%), most frequent occupation was retired persons that had 33 patients (75%). In respect of severity level based on IPSS, there were 21 patients (47,72%) of severe level, 16 patients (36,36%) of moderate level and 7 patients (15,90%) of mild level, but in respect of severity level based on rest urine score, there were 14 patients (31,81%) of grade I, 22 patients (50%) of grade II and 8 patients (18,18%) of grade III. Conclusion: Description of characteristic of BPH patients at general hospital of dr. Soedarso were age, family history, physical exercise frequency and smoking behavior,sexual frequency and occupation. Most frequent severity level based on IPSS was severe level and based on rest urine score was grade II.
