The present study was designed to assess the nature and physico-chemical characteristics of water samples collected from Pulliyankannu and Pulliyanthangal Lake, Ranipet, Vellore Dt., Tamilnadu. The physico-chemical parameters studied were pH, turbidity, Total Dissolved solids (TDS), EC, alkalinity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, Manganese, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, chloride, fluoride, sulphate and phosphate. more » ... bout the intensity of pollution caused by industrial and tannery effluents. Every parameter showed a significant correlation with increased lake water pollution. The results revealed that most of the water samples did not conform to BIS standards.
