B. A. Dunker (1746-1807) , a native of Stralsund, settled in Berne in 1773, where he worked as a painter, an etcher, and also a writer. His printed and unprinted workslargely in satirical formcenter around the issue of the artist's social status at the close of the 18th century. We are confronted with the artist's major and minor worries, with the struggle for commissions and their remuneration and with the often rocky relations between patrons and artists.
