Physico-chemical properties of capture wool and its interaction with the calamistrum of cribellate spiders

This report describes insights into the functionality of the calamistrum of four different cribellate species. The setup for calamistrum removal is described as well as the results of this manipulation onto the antiadhesion towards cribellate nanofibers. We present our results of thread mechanics in relation to ambient humidity and temperature as well as after an interaction with the cuticular hydrocarbons of cowpea weevils.
