Blinding Trachoma in Tanzania

Trachoma is an ocular infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and is a leading infectious cause of blindness worldwide. Despite the considerable progress achieved in the past 20 years toward the elimination of trachoma as a public health problem, more than 40 countries including Tanzania remain endemic. Any current and future intervention programs need to focus on empowering communities by providing education and sharing information and should be tailored to the sociocultural context
