Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) usually is a monophasic demyelinating disorder, often post infectious predominantly observed in children. Relapses are rare, and patients with recurrent episodes are eventually diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis. There were no definite diagnostic criteria or established treatment for ADEM.
