The method used in order to gain this knowledge is the hermeneutical method. Data and facts were gathered from Statistik Austria and Bayrischer Landessportverband. Firstly, it will shine a light on the biological and social differences of gender distribution. Before solving the question concerning gender borders, this paper takes a closer

First from a general side, then with the different types of sport resear-ched with the help of the film examples, namely ballet, soccer, synchronized swimming and boxing. After the determination of the actual situation of gender distribution, the paper focuses on the roles of sports and athletes in the media. After that it analyzes, discusses and concludes the fight against those defined structures of sport with the aid of four film examples. Finally, actual role models, who succeeded in an gender-atypical type of sport, will be discussed. The result of this paper shows that sports began to be accessible for women only starting in the 20th century. In the 21st century the rate of exercising women accelerated, however, it is not possible to speak of a true equal treatment. Apart from a few types of sport, like syn-chronized swimming, ballet or rhythmic gymnastics, where it is difficult for men to parti-cipate because in general it is seen as a typical type of sport for women, it is a given fact that it is harder for women to exert a certain sport because it is not considered as a sport for females and therefore not even or rarely existent in the media.
