For a successful orthodontic treatment , the state of the alveolar bone is very important. Due to its mechanically adaptive nature, different orthodontic tooth movements will cause different bony reactions in the alveolus. The subject of this lecture will be the biological and mechanical aspects of these bony reactions. Furthermore, some research projects on the orthodontic aspects of bone and bone remodeling, which are currently being performed at the Orthodontic Department of the University
