This paper discusses the design of a 2x2 rectangular microstrip patch array. The array is designed to resonate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. In order to improve the gain, a 2x2 rectangular microstrip array is designed with a rectangular slot defective ground structure.The 2x2 rectangular microstrip array is simulated usingusing HFSS. The effect of the rectangular slot on the ground plane of the 2x2 rectangular microstrip array is analysed by and the performance of the rectangular microstrip array
more » ... s measured in terms of Gain, directivity, return loss .The simulated results shows that there is an improvement of gain of 7.35 dB upon the introduction of the slot on the ground plane of the 2x2 rectangular microstrip array.
