of the genus Candida claimed on morphological and physiological grounds a close relationship between C. humicola and T. cutaneum. The presence of a positive starch reaction in at least 3 strains of C. humicola, with absence of this reaction in all other strains of Candida, definitively supports this claim.' 1 Candida heveanensis which gives a strong starch reaction has been excluded by Lodder (personal communication) from this genus and placed into the group of capsulated yeasts.
