Novel copper redox-based cathode materials for room-temperature sodium-ion batteries
2014
Chinese Physics B
Layered oxides of P2-type Na 0.68 Cu 0.34 Mn 0.66 O 2 , P2-type Na 0.68 Cu 0.34 Mn 0.50 Ti 0.16 O 2 , and O'3-type NaCu 0.67 Sb 0.33 O 2 were synthesized and evaluated as cathode materials for room-temperature sodium-ion batteries. The first two materials can deliver a capacity of around 70 mAh/g. The Cu 2+ is oxidized to Cu 3+ during charging, and the Cu 3+ goes back to Cu 2+ upon discharging. This is the first demonstration of the highly reversible change of the redox couple of Cu 2+ /Cu 3+ with high storage potential in secondary batteries.
