Modelling cyclone loss mitigation using claims analysis

This paper follows from a series of recent studies conducted by the authors and Suncorp Group Limited which analysed insurance claims from Tropical Cyclone (TC) Yasi (Queensland, 2011) to determine typical drivers of insured loss (i.e. roofing failures, etc.) for residential housing. Using the claims data from TC Yasi, the benefits of mitigation were broadly estimated by reducing claim values based on survey results from builders and assessors on expected loss reduction in properties with
