The paper shows that liquid thyroid fine-needle aspiration biopsy specimens can be used to perform PCR studies for BRAF V600E mutation. It describes a procedure for their examination. Nine thyroid cytology specimens underwent PCR analysis. Papillary cancer cells showed BRAF V600E mutation in 2 cases; this was absent in autoimmune thyroiditis.
