<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The ostracod genus <i>Octonaria</i> Jones, 1887 has been grossly misunderstood because of misleading illustrations of the type-species, <i>O. octoformis</i> Jones, 1887. The type species is considered to be the only member of the genus presently known.
