Fibonacci's Forgotten Number

Ezra Brown, Jason C. Brunson
2008 The College Mathematics Journal
Ezra (Bud) Brown (ezbrown@math.vt.edu) grew up in New Orleans and has degrees from Rice and LSU. He arrived at Virginia Tech shortly after Hurricane Camille, and has been there ever since, with time out for sabbatical visits to Washington, DC (where he has spent his summers since 1993) and Munich. His research interests include graph theory, combinatorics, and number theory, and he is a frequent contributor to the MAA journals. He came across the Forgotten Number and the mystery surrounding it

(Cory) Brunson (jabrunso@vt.edu) is a graduate student at Virginia Tech, from which he has Bachelor's degrees in mathematics and statistics and a Master's degree in mathematics. He is currently pursuing his dissertation under Mark Shimozono on the cohomology or homology (not yet certain which) classes of dual k-Schur functions. In addition to combinatorial-flavored algebraic geometry, he enjoys p.i.-theory, square dancing, wallyball, and sustainable shopping, and he aspires to work at a coffee shop in Amherst. His collaboration with Bud Brown began with a (7, 3, 1) sighting in his Master's thesis.
