A theoretical study has shown that a fuzzy controller for a single-input-single-output process can be tuned in four intuitive steps, much like classical PID (proportionalintegral-derivative) controllers. A fuzzy lookup table controller becomes a PID controller if the lookup table is replaced by a summation. The relationships between the fuzzy gain factors anrl the PID tuning parameters are simple mathematical ratios and products.
