Association of Quality of Life With Depression in Chronic Low Back Pain Patients

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate depression and quality of life among chronic low back pain patients and to observe the association between the quality of life and depression on disability. Methodology: It was a cross-sectional study. A convenient sampling technique was used for data collection. The patients suffering from chronic low back pain were selected as study population. more » ... ity of Life -the Oswestry Disability index was used. SPSS 20 was used for data analysis. Qualitative variables were presented in frequency and percentage. Results: Seventy-one percent of the patients were females and 28.65% of patients were males. 75.28% of patients were between the age of 25 to 45 years and 24.72% of patients were between the age of 46 to 65 years. Crosstabulation was done between the Oswestry scale and age. 39.9% of patients between the ages of 25 to 45 years had a moderate disability. 14% of patients between the ages of 46 to 65 years had a moderate disability. According to Beck Depression Inventory, 43.3% patients showed mild mood disturbance.
