For more th an a century, scholars have studied th e ancient Egyp ti an texts written on rolls of papyrus th at have been fo und in tombs, temples and cemeteries. But it is only recently th at sys tematic attempts have been made, as at the site of Tebtunis in the Fayum oasis, to relate such texts to the arch aeological contexts fr om wh ich th ey came.
