headache and fever. Various symptoms pointing to the central nervous system led to a diagnosis of meningitis. In order to establish the diuguosis, Fiirbringer performed paracentesis of the spinal canal at the level of the second lumbar vertebra ; 60 c. c. of a slightly cloudy serous fluid escaped, in the sediment of which were found a few pus corpuscles und numerous tubercle bacilli.
