Teijiro YABUTA, M.J.A" Dec. 12, 1954) Anthocidaris crassispina (Ag.), the Japanese 'Murasakiuni', is a variety of sea-urchins found exclusively in Japan. Its shell is colored in deep dark violet and the coloration is especially strong in the spines. The authors isolated two kinds of 1, 4-naphthoquinone pigments from the spines of the sea-urchin and named them spinochrome M1 and spinochrome M2 respectively.l' The constitutional formulas proposed by the authors are as follows.
