Wide area measurements based robust power system controller design

This paper presents a method for the tuning of a power system stabilizer (PSS) for damping inter-area lowfrequency oscillations based on wide area phasor measurements and robust controller design with the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The dynamics of a power system is identified as an approximate model based on voltage phasors obtained by the wide area measurement system (WAMS). more » ... mped effectively by a welltuned PSS based on the state monitoring with the modeling error compensation considered. The proposed method has been applied to a simple two-area power system model to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
