The effect of toroidal magnetic field ripple on energetic ion confinement in Alcator A is theoretically investigated. A heuristic Monte Carlo particle simulation shows that for sufficiently large v /v the ion loss rate due to ripple trapping is independent of the toroidal fraction of the torus contained in the magnetic well.
