... medicine. Today a significant proportion of diagnoses are based on laboratory tests. Laboratory Medicine, when used optimally, generates guiding knowledge to clinicians, provides the maximum accurate results that serve to properly treat and monitor patients, which is in turn the key to more cost-effective and quality healthcare. An important task of the Lab Manager is to ensure the provision of high quality services and a wide range of parameters that should be tested in laboratory and used for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of healthcare, in particular, medical activities. Every professional working in the respective diagnostic structure is responsible to provide a high-quality clinic-laboratory service. Clinical Laboratories are commonly considered as a financially expensive units in each healthcare institution, as those located in a larger organizational unit (hospital or clinic) have difficulty in obtaining accurate financial data. By comparing the levels of revenue for carrying out laboratory services and the financial proceeds thereof, it is recognized that Clinical Laboratories generate significant revenue and offset to a great extent the costs incurred thereby.Writing a Laboratory budget, i.e. a detailed and comprehensive financial plan of the laboratory, based on the expected research volume, the necessary equipment for their performance, the tasks assigned to the Lab Manager and the staff is a reliable tool for ensuring an effective financial management and return on investment. This is a complex and irreversible process for every medical institution, including the Clinical Laboratory. In light of the above, the budget is an indispensable tool for maintaining an efficient and financially responsible organization requiring careful monitoring of funding, identifying and evaluating the areas for optimization of activities, planning of short and long-term perspectives.
