An efficient a n d accurate finite-element m e t h o d is presented for computing transient electromagnetic fields in three-dimensional configurations containing arbitrarily inhomogeneous media t h a t may be anisotropic. To obtain accurate results with an optimum computational efficiency, b o t h edge a n d Cartesian elements are used for approximating t h e spatial distribution of t h e field.
