Gender and Media in Turkey Alternative Media: A Study on Kaos GL, Voice of the Turkish LGBTs

In Turkey, as in many parts of the world, LGBT individuals live under social and economic pressure. LGBT individuals are seen to be unnecessary identities living in the community and they are marginalized. One of the contributing factors to this perception is the mainstream media. LGBT individuals can not represent themselves, defend their rights and they are exposed to hate speech in the mainstream media.
