While photoautotrophic organisms utilize inorganic nitrogen as the nitrogen source, heterotrophic organisms utilize organic nitrogen and thus do not generally have an inorganic nitrogen assimilation pathway. Here we focused on the nitrogen metabolism ofRapaza viridis, a unicellular eukaryote exhibiting kleptoplasty.
