Gold nanorods exhibit unique and tunable surface plasmon resonance (SPR) derived optical properties in the ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) region. The high stability, low biological toxicity, bright color, and versatility of gold nanorods have inspired an explosion of research interest in their properties and applications (which include roles in catalysis, data storage, and biomedicine).
