that it was impossible to obtain the least contraction in it. Ihis fact is of some importance in a hygienic point of view. It manifestly proves that alcohol introduced into the stomach in a state of vacuity dilates and paralyzes it. This observation corroborates the experiments performed by Dr. Laborde on numerous animals, and shows the danger of drinking alcohol on an empty stomach.
