Synopsis : Fatiguefailuretestswerefirstlycarriedout.ThematerialconstantderivedfromS-Ncurvewasevaluatedandcomparedwithpreviousstudy. ThecompliancemethodwassubsequentlyusedtoevaluatethefracturetoughnessofMgO-Cbrickandtherelationshipbetweenthestress factorandcrackgrowthrate.Inordertousethismethod,theeffectsofbrickcarboncontentonthecrackgrowthrateandcrackgrowthratein hightemperaturewereinvestigated.
more » ... confirmedbyX-ray CTscans,whichrevealedlargecracksinbrickswithalowercarboncontent,eveninthemiddleoffatiguefailuretests. Furthermore,thematerialconstantsobtainedfromfatiguefailuretestandK-Vdiagramwerecompared.Amaterialconstantwasderivedby evaluatingtherelationshipbetweenthecrackgrowthrateandstressintensityfactor,andtheresultwasfoundtoagreewiththevaluederived fromfatiguefailuretests.Thisresultconfirmsthatthatmaterialconstantderivedfromfatiguefailuretestsistheinherentpropertyofthematerialandcorrespondstothevariationofcrackgrowthratewithchangesinstressfactor.TheeffectsofcarboncontentinMgO-Cbrickonthe crackgrowthbehaviourandfatiguefailuremechanismwerealsoinvestigated.
