Proximate analysis, phytochemical screening, and total phenolic and flavonoid content of Philippine bamboo Schizostachyum lumampao

The chemical composition of the leaves of Schizostachyum lumampao, known as "buho" in the Philippines, was determined for its potential use as herbal tea with potential health benefits. Proximate (nutritional) analysis using standard AOAC methods showed that the air-dried leaves contain 10.0 % moisture, 30.5 % ash, 22.1 % crude protein, 1.6 % crude fat, 28.7 % crude fiber, and 7.2 % total sugar (by difference).
