Costus root oil is a new sensitizer to examine the delayed cell-mediated immune system. Ninety-nine patients with lung cancer, 54 patients with gastric cancer and 54 control patients were tested for reactions to costus root oil. Reactions to costus root oil were positive in 63% of patients with lung cancer, 54% of patients with gastric cancer and 96% of control patients. Significant differences were demonstrated between cancer patients and patients with benign diseases (p<0.01).
